St. Anastasia Island is celebrating Black Sea Day with boat exploration courses this Friday

10/30/2025

On October 31, we celebrate the International Day of the Black Sea, and Burgas joins the initiative with an attractive event. On Friday, the ship "Anastasia" will set sail at 10:00 a.m. from Warehouse 1 - a lecture about the Black Sea awaits you!

When we get down to the island, we will measure how many centimeters our sea has receded in the last 5 years and we will discuss the reasons why this is happening. We will also count the plastics in one square decimeter of sea grass, which is home to marine organisms. You will also learn more about the species of fish inhabiting the Black Sea, fishing in the autumn months and about dolphins.

And with the course at 1:30 p.m., again on October 31, catamaran "Anastasia" will become a research vessel! Together with the scientific community of Burgas in the form of Burgas Free University and Burgas State University "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov", passengers will be able to follow in real time diving to the Underwater Park "St. Anastasia" with a special drone. Part of the event will also be SNC "Friends of the Sea" - Burgas with divers.

The drone was presented within the framework of the "Black Sea 2030" Forum held a week ago and gathered institutions and organizations from the country and abroad related to our gateway to the world.

For 30 minutes on a television screen in the ship's lounge, with a cup of herbal tea in hand, we will observe the life that has arisen around the chapel and the statue in the water area of the island. We will examine the changes caused by the recent storm to submerged cars to understand the immense power of the sea.

After the exciting experience, the ship will dock for an hour in the peace and quiet of Saint Anastasia Island.

Scientists from Burgas universities will take samples of sea water for research on its salinity and composition. This will be repeated after 8 months at the opening of the summer tourist season, as well as on 31.10. 2026.

Let's celebrate October 31 together, thus turning the island into a research center for the health of our sea!
