On November 28 and 29, Burgas will host two premier performances of the youth eco-spectacle "Voices of the Sea", created based on real testimonies of fishermen, farmers, scientists, ecologists and residents of the Black Sea.
The performance marks a historic moment for the culture of Burgas - this is the first staging of a verbatim theater in our city!
Verbatim theater is a documentary form that reproduces the words of real people verbatim, with the power of living testimony, but preserving their anonymity if they so desire. Verbatim theater is both an artistic and a socially relevant tool that makes visible the human stories behind socially relevant topics.

For the show
"Voices of the Sea" is the result of months of work by young people from Burgas, who collected authentic stories about the impact of climate change on life along the Black Sea coast. In the production, real destinies come to life - of people whose livelihood, security and daily life have already been changed by ecological processes.
The project combines verbal theater training, environmental education and the active participation of young volunteers, promoting dialogue between citizens, experts and local communities on the topics of climate and marine conservation.
Why is it important?
Burgas will see this extremely valuable and socially significant theater genre on stage for the first time. Verbatim Theater:
• gives voice to real people whose stories often go unheard;
• builds public empathy for environmental and climate issues;
• turns theater into a tool for civil dialogue and change.

The "Voices of the Sea" project is implemented by the ECOGART Foundation with the financial support of the Municipality of Burgas within the framework of the KAMALE initiative (KlimAte Mindful Actions Led by Engaged Youth Leaders) - part of the Sublime SDGs project, co-financed under the DEAR program of the European Commission. Partner and mentor in the SUBLIME SDGs project for Burgas is the Chance for the Children and Nature of Bulgaria Foundation - Center for Young Talents, Burgas.
