ONMU Researchers Participate in International Summer School on Digital Twin and AI Tools in Aquaculture
Researchers from Odesa National Maritime University (ONMU) participated in the International Summer School “The Use of Digital Twin and Artificial Intelligence Tools in Aquaculture”, held in Constanța, Romania, within the framework of the Blue Gates project, funded by the Interreg Black Sea Basin Programme.
The Summer School brought together researchers, academic representatives and experts from partner countries to exchange knowledge and explore innovative digital approaches for the sustainable development of aquaculture and the Black Sea region.
Key Topics and Activities
Satellite Monitoring
Participants discussed the practical use of satellite monitoring for assessing environmental conditions and supporting aquaculture management.
Artificial Intelligence
AI models were explored as tools for risk assessment, data analysis and evaluating the impact of climate change on aquaculture systems.
Digital Twin Technologies
Digital Twin solutions were discussed as an innovative approach for modelling, monitoring and supporting sustainable aquaculture development.
International Cooperation for the Black Sea
Experts from the National Institute for Research and Development in Computer Science presented opportunities for strengthening international cooperation and using advanced digital technologies to support environmental monitoring and the protection of the Black Sea ecosystem.
From Theory to Practice
Visit to Ovidius University Laboratories
Participants visited the laboratories of Ovidius University of Constanța, where research is conducted on the impact of environmental factors on marine fauna and aquatic ecosystems.
Research Vessel Visit
The programme also included a visit to a research vessel involved in seawater quality monitoring in the Constanța area. Participants learned more about marine observation methods, environmental data collection and technologies used for monitoring the marine environment.
The event concluded with a presentation by Prof. Eden Mamut, Secretary General of the Black Sea Universities Network, who summarised the main outcomes of the Summer School and initiated a discussion on future joint activities and cooperation among the participating countries.
Strengthening Innovation and Cooperation
The Summer School provided an important platform for the exchange of scientific expertise, development of international partnerships and discussion of innovative solutions combining Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twin technologies, satellite monitoring and marine research.
The participation of Odesa National Maritime University contributes to strengthening cooperation within the Blue Gates project and supports joint efforts aimed at developing skills, knowledge and innovative approaches for the sustainable development of the Blue Economy in the Black Sea Basin.
We thank all partners, organisers and participants for the productive cooperation, valuable exchange of experience and shared commitment to the sustainable development of the Black Sea region.
